Carvoeiro is the ‘Best European Beach’ of 2018
Portugal just can’t stop earning “best tourist destination” awards. Now, it was the time for Carvoeiro Beach, in the municipality of Lagoa, in Western Algarve, to take the win at the “European Best Destinations”, the famous tourist online platform. The Algarvian beach got ahead of compelling and interesting competitors, like the Marathonisi Island in Greece and the stunning Beach of Peljesac in Croatia.
Algarve had a second beach in the final list of the top-15 chosen for the award. The other was Fuseta Beach in Armona Island, between Olhão and Tavira in Central Algarve.
The award was given after the vote of nearly 13000 online users and tourists, from 129 countries, which made the final decision.
Second win in a row
For Portugal, it’s the second win in a row. In 2017, the award was given to the Galapinhos Beach, near Setúbal. This year, Galapinhos did not reach the top-15, but it was one of the four Portuguese beaches that make it to the election, apart from the two mentioned before. The others were the beach of Berlenga Island, near Peniche in the Silver Coast; Miramar beach, in Vila Nova de Gaia (a couple of kilometres from Porto), well-known for its tiny 17th century church built on a rock reachable by the sea waves), and the 9 kilometer-long beach of the Porto Santo island, in the Madeira Archipelago.
Portugal continues shining
Again, as you would think, these kind of online votes are subjective, and one could add lots of good arguments to prefer other beaches of the list over Carvoeiro. But the main point remains. An extensive survey of travellers, and from more than 100 countries, where choosing and the bigger vote went to Portugal and Algarve. This is just another good evidence of the very high level of attraction that Portugal is generating towards tourists from all over the world, and the Algarve is on the front line of it.
