Reasons to buy a house in the Algarve Portugal

If you’re looking for an excellent place to invest your money, Portugal is the safe haven you’re looking for. Check out these awesome eight reasons to buy a house in Portugal.

A short flight away. Flying from London to Faro takes a little less than 3 hours. From there, you can reach anywhere in Algarve in about one hour, through the A22 motorway. Even if you buy a villa in the “remote” area of Vila do Bispo, around Sagres, 1h15m is enough to get there by car.

Taxes. Check out the Non-habitual Resident tax scheme that allows you to be tax-free up to 10 years. It’s so good that it even took the Finnish government to withdraw from a previous anti-double taxation agreement with Portugal – so that Finnish expats wouldn’t get a double exemption!

Low prices… The macroeconomic situation of the country helped to create this scenario where you have the conditions of Western Europe (house building, quality of public infrastructures, etc.) with Eastern Europe prices.

…but rising – a long-term investment. Portugal is placing itself as a premium recipient of pensioners and expats, and Algarve in particular. The country is safe, politically stable (by far the most Europeanist country of Southern Europe. House prices will tend to go up.

Living cheap. This may be a repetition of the third reason, above, but it’s never enough to underline this. You can get a coffee for 0,65€, a Big Mac for 5€, a 3-play internet fibre optic service for less than 30€. And the public health system, apart the symbolic taxes to avoid over-use, is free.

Rental opportunities. Every time you’re not on holidays, you can rent your property and make a good profit. Remember that lots of people are flying to Algarve to spend their vacations!

The sun. Say goodbye to endless cloudy days. And this is especially true in Algarve, which has almost 300 sunny days throughout the year.

Algarve itself, and the whole country, generally speaking. There are the beaches, gastronomy, some of the best wines in the world, the history and culture of an almost 9-century old country, and countless activities to do throughout the year. And golf is not the less relevant of them all.
